Fair Housing Assistance

It is the intent of the City of El Monte to affirmatively further the policies of the Fair Housing Act and the American Disabilities Act. If you have any questions about your rights as a tenant, please contact one of the following organizations for legal assistance. The City of El Monte contracts with two non-profit organizations to provide fair housing service and landlord-tenant counseling to El Monte residents.

Housing Rights Center (HRC)

The Housing Rights Center (HRC) provides FREE fair housing services to El Monte residents and community members. HRC offers housing discrimination complaint investigation, landlord/tenant counseling, predatory lending referrals, outreach and education, and legal and advocacy services.

Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (LACLJ)

LACLJ provides counseling concerning housing rights, obligations and laws, and answers questions about the rights and obligations of landlords or tenants. LACLJ counselors are trained professionals that are ready, willing and able to help resolve any landlord/tenant problem.

Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County

Neighborhood legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA) primary mission is to combat the effects of poverty by accessing the judicial system to work toward lasting improvements in the lives of individuals and families and in the community.  NLSLA provides legal services that lead to improved health, expanded economic opportunities and neighborhood development.

Help is available at no cost to qualifying residents in the areas of Family Law, Imigration Law, Administrative (Public Benefits) Law, Housing Law, Employment Law, Health Law and Community and Consumer Law.
